Meet Tellico Village’s Queen of Volunteerism

When you meet Sam McQueeney, you’d never think anything in her life happened by accident or fate. A self-described type-A personality, Sam is put together, upbeat, super friendly and exudes positive energy.

Her day is often filled with meetings, brainstorming sessions or events for the numerous volunteer roles she fills at Tellico Village.

However, she and her husband, Skip, did stumble upon Tellico Village in quite an unplanned way. During a motorcycle trip in 2009, Skip had an unfortunate medical emergency in East Tennessee, which left him in the hospital for several days. While staying by his side, Sam couldn’t help but notice the natural beauty of the landscape and the warmth of the Southern culture. She began asking more about the area and learned about Tellico Village, which was right down the road.

Thanks to that unfortunate but rewarding twist of fate, Sam and Skip now call Tellico Village home and Tellico Village calls Sam the Queen of Volunteerism.

As part of the nearly 1,500 hours a year she contributes to volunteer projects, her role as Publicity VP for The Public Library at Tellico Village is one of the most public-facing. Assisting with the summer reading program, community outreach and programs that sponsor readings for residents of nursing homes, Sam aims to spread the message of literacy and love of reading as far throughout East Tennessee as possible.

Sam participates in several other roles, large and small, including Vice President of the Women’s Club & Home Tour Chair, Homeowners Association Social VP, photographer for the Corvette Club, Ladies Lite Lunch Co-Chair, Gold Wing Road Riders Association TN-M Membership Enhancement Coordinator and Newsletter Editor.  Sam also has a TV show on CH3, ‘Your Public Library – Not Just Books!’

Her enthusiasm for Tellico Village, its people and all of the philanthropic opportunities available is a condensed version of the same energy that permeates throughout the entire community.

A big thank-you to Sam and the hundreds of other volunteers at Tellico Village!
