Brentwood, TN – The National Car Rental Tennessee Assistant PGA Professional Championship was held at Brentwood Country Club this week and Casey Flenniken, PGA of Tellico Village claimed a wire-to-wire victory. Casey punched his ticket to the 2017 Assistant PGA Professional Championship at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Flenniken’s game was just as hot as the weather during the first round. Casey fired an impressive score of 63 (-8) on Monday. His round included eight birdies and ten pars. He was followed by Kevin Snell of Henry Horton, who shot a 67 (-4). Rounding out the top three was Bobby O’Brien, PGA of Chickasaw Country Club with a 68 (-3).
Round two saw Flenniken cool off a bit as the golf course began to show its grit. Casey made the turn at +2 for the day, allowing O’Brien to pull within 1 stroke after his front nine score of 33 (-2). The back side was a different story for Casey, he rolled in three birdies on his way to shot a 34 (-2). Flenniken ended the day with a 71 (E), for a two day total of 134 (-8). That proved to be enough to hold off O’Brien as he finished with a 68 (-3) and 36 hole total of 136 (-6), to finish in second place.
Ryan Botts of Old Hickory Country Club finished third with a two-day total of 138 (-3). Flenniken, O’Brien, and Botts will represent the Tennessee PGA in the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship in Port St. Lucie, FL.
The alternates in order: Kevin Snell, Tre Mullins, and Zach Wright.
All in all, this Championship turned out to be an extremely competitive one. The Tennessee PGA would like to thank Johnny Bridgeman, PGA, Andrew Kincaid, PGA, Scott Primm, PGA and the rest of the staff at Brentwood Country Club for making this tournament possible.
And a special thank you to National Car Rental, Cleveland/Srixon/XXIO, Golf Advisor, and John Deere for sponsoring this year’s Tennessee Assistant PGA Professional Championship. Without the support of our sponsors, the Tennessee PGA’s events would not be made possible.
